Kristin Gagnier

Senior Research Scientist
Kristin Gagnier

Kristin’s scholarship and professional work focus on advancing the science of education, with a particular emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). She collaborates with scientists, educational institutions, and professional and community organizations to bridge science, practice, and policy—aiming to improve educational outcomes for students and teachers across a wide range of formal and informal learning environments. She brings deep expertise in research-practice partnerships, working closely with educational stakeholders to identify learning needs, design practical, scalable interventions, and evaluate their effectiveness in enhancing student and teacher success. Her contributions to the field were recently honored with the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from the U.S. Department of Education.

At AnLar, Kristin is involved in a myriad of projects which aim to foster synergies between educational research and educational practice. She currently directs two projects, funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, which aim to support teaching and learning in elementary science through the development of research-informed curriculum and professional training and coaching. For example, Kristin leads the development and evaluation of SPACE-IT, a novel professional development program that utilizes workshops and coaching to facilitate 5th-grade teachers’ effective science instruction and students’ spatial thinking skills, interest, and science achievement. She also directs the development and evaluation of a curriculum that employs five research-informed practices to develop students’ scientific interest and competencies. Before joining AnLar, Kristin was the Director of Dissemination, Translation, and Education at the Science of Learning Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Kristin earned a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Delaware and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center at Temple University.
